Right,
After both heads have been on the 4.7V8 I have put it all back together correctly (I hope).
Timing was set up both cames top dead centre as per the workshop manual.
Is there anything I need to do, I have checked and double check everything, battery is fully charged.
Is there a way to prime the fuel or is it a case of just crank it over and hope it starts?
Cheers
J.

If you haven't already give it a few turns by hand with a socket and bar on the crank pulley first just to make sure its all okay as you should be able to feel any mechanical restriction, The starter motor wont be so forgiving :003:.
-
Did that after I timed it up to check there was no resistance.
I have got P340 camshaft position sensor malfunction and won't start.
Any idea's?

Check connections and earths, try disconnecting the battery... seems strange it would have failed whilst in garage?
Before starting an engine after a rebuild, or even just a oil change I disconnect the coil lead and crack over until oil pressure is up, I always fill the oil filter before putting it on.
-
Ok, maybe I have not got the earths in then correct place.
Where should the earth strap connect up to, it starts on the bulk head what should it be linked to from there?
Just done some googling, should the braded earth on the bulk head be connected to the coils on 7 and 8??
At present they are not, I think I have earthed the earth :017:
-
you should have an earth to the engine block somewhere.

See my previous post, just amended it
This isn't the main earth strap to the block but smaller earth. If that makes sense
-
Earth straps on the block are usually for the starter motor and plugs. Sensors have their own earths which are normally spliced together within the wiring looms and are much smaller gauge - it's unlikely you've removed these.
-
These are the straps I am on about,
It starts at the bulkhead, I have just got it connected to the inner wing which I know is wrong, but I need to know where the 2 points are it goes.

Found it,
Goes to either side of the Inlet Manifold.
Would this cause my Cam Position sensor fault?
-
in short yes.but there may be other reasons
-
Cheers Rob, I will do the earths, go for re start and report back.
-
You should have given me a call. I remember taking that earth strap off.

Thanks Dave,
As you may have gathered, I don't recall you taking them off :lol_hitting:
Do they have to go one 7 and 8 or can they be located on the 2 further forward? Just thinking of ease of access.
-
It was on 7 &8 ran round the back of the manifold. I would make sure you get one on each bank, wouldn't think it matters which 2 though.
-
Cheers Dave,
At work today so will see what time I get back and sort it out.
-
Even ya engine bay is shiney :D
Good luck dude report when running
-
Earths re connected as they should be.
Still got camshaft position sensor fault showing and non start.
-
Have you got fuel pressure? Can you hear the fuel pump prime on cranking?
-
did you check crank sensor? maybe you finished it off when you stripped off heads. should be able to check fuel presure at fuel rail?
-
Donk is coming over on Sunday to do some fault finding!
-
She breathes again.
Camshaft position Sensor wasn't located properly.
Just going to give it an oil change tomorrow.
-

Err Mr Hang over came to fault fine and help only decided to double check the sensor after taking it all apart with me again lol.
Massive cheers to Donk for his time helping me.
Oh and I brought a magnet on a stick today donk!
-
Well another few hrs spent on her today.
Full service carried out, all fluids and filters changed.
Chased a couple of water leaks where the pipes had perrished a bit at the ends.
Took her out for a drive and its running really well, smooth burbly.
Its good to have a running V8 again.
-
Good work fella :icon_super: (and Donk!)
You going to bring it on Saturday?
