Title: WJ Rear suspension N/S
Post by: GCherokee on January 06, 2013, 02:38:36 PM
Rear N/S knocking over bumpy roads.

What are the common knocking areas please.

I have replaced the rubbers and rear shocks and they look okay.

I recently fitted an Addco sway bar but this is clear of all surrounding areas.

I cant see any bare areas of metal where two surfaces are hitting one another.

Annoying, and I would like to silence it.

Any clues please?

Funny that. I recently had the half shaft oil seal done on the R N/S. I wonder.

Thanks.

Some handy tips there - thanks guys.

Thanks Jedi - let me do a bit more investigating before I commit. I will PM if I need to take up your offer.

I put one inch pipe lagging on the sway bar just to see if the knocking would stop - it did to a greater extent but there is still a knock somewhere - and I realize the lagging is only a stop gap but it will be marked by any contact with other bits.

I shall have to check out the ball joint.

I will check out the seat lock too - stranger things have happened. It would be bloody good if that was the knocking  :098:

Having a look at my workshop manual I have seen the ball joint you mean situated on top of the diif casing itself.

I thought there was one on the halfshaft or thereabouts. Wrong.

However, more investigation tomorrow.

Did you keep the std Drop-links from the swaybar?

The bushes there are prone to let go!

Drop links can knock like a bugger as can, shock bushes, A frame ball joint and associated bushes (i have some of these too, PM me if ya need em), tools in the boot, unclipped fuel pipes, and kidnap victims
