HI, I've got a 98 4.0 xj which was working fine until the front caliper seized on and I drove it a mile or two to get it home, now that's fixed it won't kick down goes into first, second using the shifter but won't change down on its own. Changed the gearbox oil but no change, can anyone help.
cheers Mark

check the adjustmemt of the kick down cable on the throttle body. You should find instructions if you google it or search somewhere like naxja.org or jeepforum. I'd give you a link but i'm on my phone with crap signal at the mo

And make sure the cable end fitting hasnt fallen apart or become disconnected at the throttle body, I have disconnected mine to prevent kickdown as it always kicks down to 2nd or even 1st which is a pain when your doing 60 ish mph :icon_rolleyes:

tried that thanks guys but still no luck, tried it on the motorway and it only does 65 mph now not used it for months so can't remember how fast it went but I'm sure it was faster than that it's got 31" tyres on if that makes a difference.

What revs is it doing at 65? If it's high it might not be changing into overdrive - i've had this as a symptom of the neutral safety switch being bad. Reverse lights nit working all the time is another symptom.
