Title: Non starter
Post by: jeepsta on January 19, 2013, 09:59:18 PM
Hi all. Sorry not been on in a long while ! What with work , real life stuff and dodgy internet connections some things seem to take a back seat !

Anyways my jeep has been going well after a service. i changed oil , water , battery and glowplugs etc as it had decided to be a pain to start in the mornings. Then today after heavy snow just when i needed it to get to the horse field it decides to play up !!!

It seems to turn over and over but wont fire up. I even reheat the glowplugs ( on off ... on off ) but no joy.
I did a bit of research and things maybe point to the crankshaft sensor. The sensor was changed about 2 years ago though.

Anyone suffer similar problems or know what it could be ?  :017:

Any help would be great.

Cheers  :greggmo:

prime the fuel filter by pumping it - it can take a lot.

then try and start it - if it does then likely a leak on  bleed off pipe allow it to drain back.

or just crack an injector pipe and see if fuel is coming through.

Ok couldnt find a black button but found a white screw cap which when undone was like a pump. So pumped it for a few mins and tried to start but no luck !

Replace the fuel filter (use genuine parts) and replace the bleed off pipes, once done report back.

Do as I have suggested and report back.

Ok ..changed fuel filter
Took a while to start as had to pump diesel.
It has now started everytime since.
Although the weather has changed and its a bit warmer. Need a cold morning for the real test.

Cheers for all the advice :)

Hi again. Ok so we had the test this morning. It was about minus 2 this morning and lo and behold the jeep refused to start. Just keeps cranking over but wont start. A fair amount of smoke was coming out the exhaust. Maybe unburnt diesel ?

Any ideas ?

Cheers

Yup.

DF had exactly the same problem. All sorted with new glow plugs.
