Like it says.
Progress or otherwise will be updated here.
-
Im in :greggmo:
The date closer to the summer would be best
-
I will be in :icon_biggrin:
-
The dates we have to choose from are:
4/5th May
11/12th May
18/19th May
All earlier weekends are either booked or too close to other events that the owner doesn't want to have the site over-damaged.
Can I have a show of people who can / can't do the dates above please. I have these dates provisionally held for 1 week.
-
May :icon_super: cool, that means we're not waking up with ice on the tent/grass/truck and getting scorched at the front and freezing our arses off round the campfire :003:
I'm flexible so count me in with the majority of the voters. :greggmo:
-
Sounds like a plan, I,m good to go :icon_biggrin:. Go for the 4th and 5th as it is a bank holiday weekend
-
:iagree: I'm up for the Bank Holiday.......3 day holiday type of thing..
-
We can have camping Friday to Monday so anyone who wanted to could take advantage of the bank holiday weekend.
-
Job done then :greggmo:
-
It would be good if we could get an idea of numbers that will attend the event if it's bank holiday weekend (to get pricing right )so point people to this thread to show interest if you can. Thanks.
-
Think the bank holiday will end in divorce for me but I'll try. Put me tentatively down for that date
-
TBH I think I can do any of them but will check when Im at work 2mrw
-
Think the bank holiday will end in divorce for me but I'll try. Put me tentatively down for that date
You will be fine, there are 2 bank hols in May so just make a promise for the second one. And then break it :hysterical:

Or go home on Sunday and do something familified on Monday :102:
-
just checked, good to go on any of them so Im easy
-
I can do 4/5 or 17/18 away on the middle one. Either way means booking time off so I'm not fussed.
-
Come on you lot, you know you want to come. Put ya names down :jump_125:
-
18th/19th my personal preference :003:
-
OK for any other than 4th-5th.
Got a Triathlon that weekend.
Having said that; the bank holiday would mean an extra nights camping for folks,
.........but also more traffic and increased likelihood of other commitments.
-
shit - bad husband :icon_redface:
4/5th is Mrs BD's bday weekend so that one isnt a goer for me
-
Ok, it's looking like 18/19th might be best. Keep adding comments and get people to chip into the thread. I'll leave it undecided until the end of the week.
-
i cant do 11th/ 12th but good for others
-
Gaz, you started this 'sh*tfight' :hysterical: can you as OP edit and add a poll with those 3 dates.
Simpels .... :003:
-
:017: can someone give me the adress of West harptree? or at least where about's it is? thanks.. :icon_winkle:
-
this is getting complicated...... So I have had a Words with management and whole feckin month is ok.......
until it's not...... :icon_twisted:
-
:017: can someone give me the adress of West harptree? or at least where about's it is? thanks.. :icon_winkle:
site postcode is BS40 6DQ
-
To get an idea of the site, what we can setup and possibly location, directions and other details check out last year's west harptree thread and definitely look at the aftermath thread - some good pics and vids there.
I'll develop more of plan and poll for ideas of what people want after we've got the booking sorted.
-
So at the moment we have 10 of us that can make the 18th-19th anymore.
-
Should be good for the 2nd and 3rd weekends. Just need a Jeep to drive! :017:

The Crab? lol... it's been called a few things but never the crab.
Just noticed the 18th/19th coincides with 'Spring Break' run by the AWDC at Walters Arena... :banghead:

Simpels .... :003:
Had considered that but really wanted folks thoughts too so made you lazy buggers type stuff :hysterical:
Going to be speaking to James about Harptree & Mick regarding the Holymoorside trip also over the next day or so. Definate date for Harptree in a day or so but most likely 18/19th as it seems we are heading in the right direction with regard to numbers :icon_winkle:
-
i'm good for the 18th & 19th, diary booked :003:
-
2hrs for me.
If I can convince Nat its a weekend away in the caravan it could work.
Would it be ol for the WJ with slight lift, AT's and bling removed as don't fancy towing caravan off the XJ.

Nosebolt & BD pottered around in their standard ZJ's last year so I can't see why not.
-
Lots of serious AWDC and Howling Wolf trial and winching stuff..... including a well stuck and winching out footage of a MitsiMog...... all googlable on You-Tube........
Seems a great site and looking forward to giving the 1 Tonne a spank.......
Weird thing is when you do a Google map search ....tis hardly noticable from the air..... how very queer :icon_twisted:

Thats because it is in effect a huge trench with tracks running up both sides. In 2D that does not show.

Splendid news then.
Looks like this could be on.
-
Booked for 18th / 19th May.
Prices, times and other details will be posted shortly.

-
big scar and still get shooting pains if overwork it but in general its as good as can be expected
just lucky I work sitting down now :003:
-
What does everyone want? I am starting to formulate a plan.
Things I like and/or think I worked well previously:
- Trials, good for specatating and driving, a bit of competitive spirit but nothing taken seriously, maybe a few sections or just a reverse of the previous
- Punches, maybe not for all but they aren't too tricky to setup and give some people a challenge and opportunity to think, plan, then cock it up and winch.
- 'Maxi' trial / special stage: not timed or canes, just an interesting section taped off and the challenge being just to complete it. :steeringwheel:
- a Birty's Bonfire (obviously) :jump_125:
- a few beers (even more obvious) :icon_jook:
- award for the person who provides the most entertainment (best if it's due to unintentional carnage :icon_twisted:)
Things that might be good too:
- place for RC cars
- mini-quiz where you have to gather clues from places on the site (in Jeeps or on foot, whatever you feel like), prize for winner. could be for non-drivers to provide something else to do?
Non of the above are compulsory and I'm sure there are other ideas - can you just give me an idea about what you want from the weekend please?
-
- Trials, good for specatating and driving
As long as we can blast that feckin rock out of the bottom of that bomb crater.....saw too many diffs/shafts catch that one... :003:
Punches....... bring it on :icon_super:
and the rest off course.
-
- award for the person who provides the most entertainment
that will go to Dutch for polishing his truck on between days on Saturday evening :003:

Thanks for adding the dates to the title Gaz.
Any more ideas for activities or itinerary for the event from anyone?
-
Guys count me in for the weekend. But I'll be happy to also camp the Sunday night as it will mean a full day froading rather than packing up lunchtime on the Sunday.
-
I will 100% confirm but from discussions so far the site is ours from lunchtime Friday to Monday morning so people can camp Friday through to Monday if they want. We will also have two portaloos on site but not much else in the way of camping facilities.
-
Costs
Basic fees are:
£25 per day offroading
£5 per night camping
In order to get people confirmed and get some money in we can offer a slight discount for 'weekend' tickets purchased in advance:
£45 for the weekend offroading (no camping)
£50 for the weekend offroading with camping Fri & Sat nights included.
Pay via Birtys checkout (details coming shortly).
We will also setup another thread only for confirmed attendees, you can add your name if you are 100% confirmed whether you have paid in advance or not.
-
James Count me in and tell me where to send the cash, payment in advance shows commitment and perhaps all should do the same
-
Posted up a separate thread for "Attendees only"
Birty's checkout should be up & running later tonight :icon_winkle:
-
Birty's ticket office now open :icon_super:
www.cheapfest.co.uk (http://www.cheapfest.co.uk)
-
Cool, thanks Gaz (&Bruce)
-
I think I'm going to be at this one 8-)
I shall be the proud owner of a shiny XJ by then, my last uni exam of the year is on the 17th, and I've just managed to book the weekend off work so I should be able to attend and have a bit of a potter about :icon_super:
I'll add my name to the attendance list once I'm 100%
-
I am up for this, finally have some time this year for Birty week stuff.
Will be rolling up with Dutch, nice little trip up from Kernow :icon_biggrin:
Happy days, Maf

Looks like we've got a Kernow convoy :icon_super:

We often have the golf ball section on our punch hunts...
Six plastic cups around a small area, each team is given six golf balls, then either the driver or crew man put one ball in each cup, then back to the start, then back around and collect each golf ball, no one is allowed out of the truck and if a golf ball is dropped then a 30 second penalty, good fun...
I can bring cups and golf balls and more punches if you like? We have about 50/60.
Cheers Maf

A daft question I know, but I assume I'll need to get a front recovery point on the XJ for this? On the rear is the tow bar adequate??
-

Really looking forward to this event, will be towing the TJ up as don't fancy 200+ miles on swampers :icon_rolleyes:
If anyone wants a low mileage 2006 Grand Cherokee CRD then mine is for sale and will be at Harptree....

Cool, glad people are looking forward to it. I've got plenty of punches, trials and other challenges to keep people entertained.
If anyone has a big gazebo / military tent or similar for sign-in and possible bad weather shelter duties that would be cool. Same goes for a big bbq, oil drum style - just to provide cooking space for people to do their own thing was my idea.
Payments and bookings up front are really appreciated and if anyone is thinking they might fancy turning up on Sat or Sun if they're free then it's totally cool but I would appreciate a heads-up so I can be aware that someone might be due. PM me if you'd rather let me know off the main thread. Same goes if anyone has to drop out.
Thanks for the help getting this off the ground and for supporting it and wanting to turn up :greggmo:
-
I can't wait for this :003:
I've got a 3x6m folding gazebo (with sides) that I'm happy to bring if you like. (We might have 2, but I can't remember if one got broken)
-
That would be awesome if you have room to bring it Bryn.
I'll be doing a sun-dance but in case of any bad weather a few big tarps can really help make the evening social a lot more comfortable so bring what you have and can fit in the Jeep
-
Yeah, it fits no probs with the seats down. I'll have a dig around and see if I can find anything else of use!
-
I may have a glitch in my plans for this event
-
:icon_eek: Nnoooooooo!
Anything that could help?
-
I'm all paid up so got to get the Jeep ready now.
-
Got the dosh James ta.
better pay myself soon :icon_redface: :003:
-
When are you going down Gaz ?
-
Yeah, when? I could be landing Friday P.M!
-
I'll be there Friday pm, exact time tbc but have mid afternoon in mind.

The only off road driving I will be doing is with my r/c crawlers. Anybody else bringing them along, if some interest might be able to get the tennis balls out and make a comp course for a bit of fun :greggmo:

-
Do you want me to bring some animal cages, we could keep them safely in the corner of a field somewhere while you play?
:003:
-
Cages wont hold them - they are like the ultimate versiin of a demolition and destruction A Team :003:
-
Crazy fool, I ain't getting in no cage!
-
Long shot but I have purchased four 33x10.50x15 tyres off MOCAJ, and he was bringing them to Harptree, which is now screwed for me coz I cant go, but I need these tyres as they are goin on a truck Im sellin so I can keep the 35's its currently on .......
so the question is: Can anyone collect them for me and at least get them any closer to me the Midlands?

We know the route to the local hospitals quite well enough. Lets try to not have to visit them again this year- I for one am running out of eyes!!
-
Redditch if memory serves me correctly, and im in Kent :023:
yep its Redditch, B97 or I can bring them to Harptree
-
For help with directions and also for those with trailers, see the site maps and entrance photo below. Best to approach from the south if bringing a trailer as the turn in is tight through the gate and to the left.
-
Thanks H, payment received :icon_winkle:
-
Okay, bit the bullet !!
Looked at the long range weather forcast and don't like what I see.
Clutch is not reliable
Steering iffy.
Crank seal leaking like buggery.
Providing I can get there and the truck let's me down in the process of, I'd be more
of a liability to others and my enjoyment would quickly go out of the window.
My own stupid fault I left it too late to sort the truck out.
On the upside : get ready for IOW and since I'm allowed two events so Cheapfest looms large.
Sorry guys. (Gaz, attendees list amended)
-
Thats sad news mate, was looking forward to catching up :icon_sad:
No chance you take a ride up in the Grand ?
-
..or can Maf stick you on a trailer / you tow his up or some combination? Would be good to see you but understand the dodgy truck issue completely AND the running out of time.
-
I am coming but without the jeep. A touch of camping some BBQ food and a few bottles of Merlot I think. Plus one of the Dogs. I will bring some wood for the fire aswell, as I will be in my van. See some of you on Friday when I get there.
-
Happy days Rob :)
-
Cool. Will be good to see ya Rob.
-
Glad you can make it Rob.
A couple of queries for those that have been there before and have better memory than me:
1. Is there a water supply on site (drinking water)?
2. If you've driven a trailer there before do you have tips on routes to approach the site or a convenient place to drive past, turn around and come back towards the site from the south?
Everything else should be organised, just turn up from lunchtime Friday and set up camping stuff in the grass field. I'll be there mid afternoon if all goes to plan.
-

Bring your own water/beer
Easy access with a trailer
Take your fecking rubbish home with you :icon_super:

The trailer thing was at Warthog really, I know he had to drive past turn around and come back to site so he could make the turn into the gate. I just wondered how easy the turning around was.
I've pulled into a McDonalds before with 16ft bed trailer on and then had to turn around - not quite as simple as it sounds :icon_redface:
Thanks for confirming no water on site, please note everyone.
-
Ignore this, already answered :icon_redface:

Have just paid for ticket Gaz. Wanted to be sure the xj was ready before I committed.

If you come from the Steep hill side. Just go past and turn into the Farmers gate 100yards past Site entrance. An irate Mut, is the only thing that will give you aggro....

Gazebos, large tent, big tarp, bungees etc. Just in case we get that rare weather phenomenon called rain and still want to soldier on and talk shite and be social
-
Really sorry guys, I can no longer make it, Wrangler not ready, too busy at work and setting up a second car site/garage/valet bay, too much to do and pulling 12/14 hour days means I have had no time to get Wrangler ship shape, :(
-

Great weekend. A big thank you is owed to James for organising the first Birtys event of the year and doing such a good job of it too (with a bit of help from Gaz I must add.)
Warthog and Donk did a top job of setting up the trials and getting folks tied up in knots, so much so one participant had to have a lie down half way round!
Great wheelin' (T'is a cracking site), unbeatable weather and top company. Who could ask for more. Here's a few pixs from the weekend.....

Yup Bazz, I made it there! I'll upload some photos once I've sorted through them and found some (if any!) good ones.
Thanks everyone - I had an awesome weekend! It was good to finally meet some of you, and I had good fun playing about in my XJ (which now seems small compared with everybody else's Jeeps!). :003:
I think I've just about recovered from that sauce, although it took a while (thank you Mark)!! :icon_eek: :003:
I shall definitely make a point of coming to more events from now on 8-)

No damage other than a saggy front wing but I'm sure that'll be easy enough to straighten out; new seats from Ezz were a steal and a lot easier than trying to clean the muck out of the sponge in the original (and the passengers seat was broken to start with).
I had a great time; cheers for organising and having me along. I'll try to get some disconnects for next time and stay upright.
-
Good job dude. :greggmo:
Was good to have you along and I'm pleased you've not been put off by the experience. Someone has to provide the entertainment at a Birtys event. I'm just glad it didn't involve a trip to hospital this time round.
