Hi Guys, I have seen 2 Cherokees both 2006 one is 3.7 petrol (LPG) with 66000 miles and other 2.8 diesel with 65000 miles both are limited & autos. I travel 6 mile round trip most
days and maybe one day a week do 70 miles. I intend towing a horse box on the odd occasions and might do a little off roading but nothing to serious as this will be my daily driver.
Any advice would be helpful to which would suit my needs best, I have read mixed reports about both.

I'm sure that those who know better will say differently but I would go for the petrol with Propane....Generally I find modern diesels over complicated for what they are... Also you are doing short trips, so in the winter most diesels will take an age to warm up..... Having said that the V8s dont like propane all that much without a fuel lube (Flashlube) system...... Petrol V8 for me

TBH either are good engines,
If you want a diesel the 2.8 is the one to have especially if towing horses the extra grunt with be useful.
If you want a petrol the 3.7 is a good engine and on LPG it should be as good as the diesel on fuel.
My Mrs uses our V8 Grand Cherokee as her daily car on LPG and its great.
The V8 does need flashlube and as the 3.7 is the same design I would think it also requires this fitting, (I stand to be corected though).

I've spoken to a mechanic today and he says avoid LPG as it runs to dry, If the petrol hasn't got flashlube will it have already done damage and if not is it difficult to fit now.

For the amount of miles you are doing I think I'd just go for a petrol because you'll probably get a better one for your money or make a saving over buying a diesel.

Diesel. The 3.7 is a bit weak on LPG like the V8 WGs

Went to see 56 plate 2.8 limited today with 60000 miles and basic sat nav (Jeep), dealer said he would do cambelt, refurb corroded alloys and have drivers heated seat repaired (heater not working and leather/pvc badly cracked/worn on lower squab where bum has rubbed getting in and out. he won't budge from £6750 and he offered full parts & labour warranty for 12 months £299.
