After all the fun of Sunday, alot of chatting and 'brain picking' I have finally decided to keep the CJ.
Things like 'it would be a shame to sell her' and 'think what a couple of grand could do'.
Here's the plan:
I have acquired a pair of uprated axles, front has blown R+P, rear is different ratio to mine. Any recommendations for the axle work. My first choice is too busy for the foreseeable future.
Change to 4.88 and run 35s
4wd lift part No. 4932406
Phat Phux +2" shackles
Body lift No. 4wd822
Disco's No. 4wd101 (would these be OK with the lift and shackles?)
Extended lines No. 695910 (Ditto)
Steering stabiser Either No. 493302 or 493461 (not sure which)
Bump stops No. 4wd651 (are they really needed?)
Bestop No. 5159801 (what's the difference between black and black denim?)
New gauges of some sort.
Who's the best for new wheels? What sort of shipping charge for five?
New seats and winch to follow, and one day, the V8
Please have a look and tell me if I am 'on the right lines' with the upgrades, and will I need anything else?
-
sounds good to me the brake lines you can get made up at a decent hydrolics company if you take them your old ones i did and it saved me about £70, ive never done anything with my bump stops so in my opinion dont bother unless your tyres badly rub at full stuff.
-
For the body lift, try and get the Daystar BL kit, (it's a complete body mount replacement, and not the 'add a spacer' type)
For the soft top, i think black is like a pvc type covering, and black denim is a material.
If it were me i'd go for black denim!
Have a look at www.bronco4x4.com (http://www.bronco4x4.com) for rims
-
Glad you've decided to keep it Mark
Think black denim is the material cover (like mine..)
Couple of things I'd add good recovery points front and back - if you've not already got them
K&N air filter
oh yes and some wellington boots rather than trainers :D
-
The trainers weren't on my feet.
I thought they were safe on the back seat!
-
Exactly...you can get washable wellies
-
i recon the newt kicked the trainers off the seat. that is some list mate. fair play.
-
Sunlighter bikini is a MUST!!!!!!
-
i would go 4.56 dont rekon you need to go as deep as 4.88
-
Ric. I really wouldn't look good in a bikini.
-
Least you wouldn't have to worry about gettin' your trainers wet!
-
i agree with bubba 4.88 would only be needed for 37s up you would more than likly find your jeep screeming at 60mph with these
-
Ric. I really wouldn't look good in a bikini. :D
-
Is it the case that you would use 4.88 on a later vehicle?
My top gear (3rd) is a direct drive (1:1), where as later boxs have an 'overdrive' top gear.
It has also been suggested that a 4.88 in a D30 results in a large and weaker ring gear.
-
it would be a weak pinion as it would be so small
-
yup only as big as a cotton bud
-
After a few alterations and additions the orders have been made.
4WD didn't back off until they had faxed copies of credit card, license and photo ID. They have now shipped. The others are still processing.
Just need to order my tyres and arrange the axle work.
-
so what did you order and the plan is
-
After a quick peep in the box (didn't want to get it all out), I'm kind of wondering if the 'black denim' was the right choice for the soft top!!!
-
So which top did ya go for 8)
-
Went for the Bestop Supertop.
-
Cool :D
-
Was gonna go for the black denim meself, what's it like? Did you get soft doors aswell?
-
Black denim is the best choice
Unless of course you wanted the retro look?
-
Wait til you put it on, i had the black pvc looking bestop on my cj and never did like it.
Unless of course you wanted the retro look?
Or you have a thing for PVC!
-
I ordered the black denim for my FJ40 but they were out of stock and sent the PVC type one. I havent got around to fitting it yet, but I'm hoping the 'Retro' look will suit a 1967 FJ :?
