Hi all,
I've had my WJ for 3 years and have reached 100k miles.
Since buying it the engine light would stay on intermittantly after starting it and stick the gear box. After reading the manual, it advised me to turn the engine off for 10 seconds and restart which should release the gearbox and the engine light would go out again after getting up to 50mph, which it has done all this time. ( I ignored the manuals further recommendation to get it checked out ).
5 weeks ago, the engine light decided to stay on despite trying the 10 second stop/start rule. DOH !!
The TCM was an immediate thought, £700, or just a simple fooked gearbox, £1500 or more !
However, the lights on the gear selector were still lit up and the gearbox has always run very smoothly.
The nearest Jeep dealer is 40 miles away and I didn't fancy getting there in "limp home" mode, or paying the £100 Jeep diagnostic fee, so I took it to a local garage with a Bosch diagnostic. £25 later and an error code reset with a printout showing P0700, P2310, P222, P2212, P2602, P200A errors.
These are all autobox errors revolving around power supply, improbable signals, signal outside range etc.
That morning I had a flat battery so replaced it with a high powered new one and have had absolutely no problems since. Engine light goes off every time, no stuck gearbox.
I'm wondering whether all these errors were caused by a poor battery not able to prime the gearbox electronics before I turn the engine, hence the gearbox thinking something's wrong and setting off the warning light.
I've delayed posting this for 4 weeks in case the light returned ( which it still might ), but it hasn't and my lovely WJ is running beautifully.
I hope this may help some of you before you scare yourselves silly with worrying about a much more expensive problem.

Hi Ged,
The WJ 2.7 will always find ways to scare you :003: (the truck that teaches you to love it and loathe it at the same time)...... not according to Johno who has only owned perfect ones that do 200K without a glitch :hysterical:

I think you're both right, I always start it with one eye closed whilst looking at the dash lights.
I call it "Christine", as some may remember, the car with a dangerous personality. The aircon comes on when it wants to, the side lights work/don't work/then work again just when you've purchased a new bulb :017: and the classic blows cold air when you want hot and vice versa.
So why do I still love it ? It's big toothy grin at the front always makes me smile and its running cost makes me frown.
It's turning me into a manic depressive :ace:

Hmmm .... that dodgy perv in his corset at the back of that landy, that was posted here some time ago, comes to mind :011:
