This is causing diesel fumes to come through the heating system. Any ideas as to how to fix it or is it a garage job?
-
Unless your very very handy, its a garage job as the engine has to be lowered to access the rear most injector.
Sorry mate,
It is generally said that if going to the expense of having the rear most done, do the rest at the same time.
-
I get the feeling that it is going to be expensive as I swear I could hear the Service Manager rubbing his hands together! Thanks for your response.
-
Where are you located?
Doesnt need to be a dealer, just a good independent mechanic.
-
King J,
Is it a fuel leak or is it black death (leaking lower injector seal). Two completely different issues. Fuel line/leak/connection could be fixed in situe.
Black death : injector has to come out, cleaned and re-seated. I have gone for the small hole in the body above the injector.
It is covered by the plastic cover on the outside anyway so not visible. All my injectors needed refurbing @ 130K.
Yes dunno what the general condition of the others is but if you do one better to have a look at the others while you're at it.
Dealer will be spensive (500 quid comes first). Maybe a diesel specialist in your area can help.
Let us know how you get on.

Jay/ Dutch, I am just outside Reading, Berks so have a local Chrysler dealership very nr to me. Just found a local Jeep specialist (independant) so will try him for a quote.
-
Just check the fuel pump to the front of the engine, mine was leaking a few years ago and the smell was inside.
-
Definitely not the fuel pump as I can see the leaked fuel around the rear injuector. Independant guy quoted £300 so he wins over main dealer!!
-
Keep us posted on how you get on.

I did read somewhere of a mobile Mercedes engine specialist who does these. Might have been on been on the jeep forum
-
Yeah, that was on this form, but I can't remember who used him..he got a good result for two people as I recall.
Should have said two people who posted on here.

I had a mobile Merc specialist down to North Wales from North Yorkshire.
He dropped the gearbox and engine, removed all the injectors and serviced them.
Removed all the carbon deposits.
Re cut the injector seats in the cylinder head.
Replaced all the stretch bolts and sealing washers.
Carried out a diagnostic test on completion.
He carried out the job from the back of his van and under a tarpaulin(it was raining) next to my house which took him eight hours.
His cost would have been £550 but he replaced one of the injectors with a recon injector(£60)
Total cost was £620 all in, with a 20,000 mile or twelve months warranty.
The engine looks like new and runs sweet as a nut. I can highly recommend him.
He can be contacted on 01423 862204 or 07577 473486 or email: indigomerc@aol.co.uk
I would use the mobile number as he travels all over the country doing this job.
