Title: Tyre choice
Post by: MK1 on March 22, 2006, 06:29:38 PM
I have found BF Goodrich and Discoverer STT at a similar price.

Is there anything between them, grip, tread depth, lifespan, sidewall strength etc?

Common thread is that they both should be black and round....

BFG's have an excellent reputation for longevity

The price was a clincher. Coopers much cheaper and they work. (not that BFGs don't...)

BFG`s dont cut up as easily as coopers! (based on my experience,) but coopers cheaper, and work just as good!

Then again some people say Colways as good but much cheaper!

My BFG`s been on jeep 3 years,1st year offroading 2-3 days a week and about 200 road miles a week too!! probably about half worn now( mind you jeep not moved for 2 years!

I'd say if the BFGs and Coopers are the same price, then the BFGs are the ones to get. Coopers should be cheaper although not as cheap as Colways.

I've heard that Colways wear in ~10k - 15k miles and are meant to be crap in the wet! I've heard of BFGs lasting 50K (A/Ts, not M/Ts)

are we talkin new coopers or the old ones? the old ones had a good rep. the new ones that me and manda are running have moved on quite a bit with this armour casing and a new tipe of compound. cant realy give a propper verdict on em just yet but they work well, off road they clear well and if you like to air down they will go real low.on road they feel like road tyres think that is down to the compound. i think the tyre debate can go on forever. the best thing to do is buy em and try em if you dont like em dont buy em next time. the coopers are workin for me but i baught them cos my fav,s the grabber werent availible and i am sort of glad they werent.
