After spending several nights stripping out a load of redundant connectors/wires from my 97 TJ harness, I'm starting to build my new very simply dashboard/wiring harness. As shown in the picture, does anybody know what the attached connector is intended for? Its in the start-run wire from the ignition to the immobilser. Pull the connector and I suspect the vehicle is dead so I guess its some simple way of disabling the vehicle, I say simple as its a 30 second job to cut/splice wires. Just wondering if I've missed something obvious... I'd like to get rid of the immobiliser but I've not been able to track down a US 97 TJ PCM from a trusted source / plus its not high on the priorities list.

I expect it's wired into the immobiliser to just isolate the ignition as immobilisers do, and if you get a US PCM you could just splice the yellow wire back together and you'll be good to go. Can a 98-99 non SKIM PCM be used as well as a 97 as it may widen the search a little.

I have a theory. A '96-98 ZG PCM might work. They never had SKIS, and the factory anti theft system wasn't used by the UK spec immobiliser. Maybe borrow one and give it a try, what could possibly go wrong :003: The other one that should work is a 1996 only pre facelift XJ as this also had the 3 plug PCM but no SKIS.

Thanks guys. I'm just waitint to hear back from Novak if there are any issues with using a Cherry PCM, looking at Ebay there are plenty available.

Just get a USA one like I did, no pesky immobiliser problem.

PH, where did you get it from and how much did you pay. 97 ones are hard to come by unless you pay $250-$350 to one of the exchange places and they appear to have a pretty dodgey reputation. Factor in P&P and shipping I could end up by a very expensive door stop! :010: By comparision, Cherry ones are very easy to come by for £50.

Was ebay, let me see if I can find the link....
