What is the wiring colour?
Guessing it's not yellow!!

If it's deep Inside the wing and has a black tube coming out of it, that will be a vacume reservoir
-
AHHH. is this a rouse??? it's a blow job!!!

that sounds like the fella, it has a small black plastic hose on the middle of it...so whats the vacuum for?
-
It's for the manifold and heater controls

That may explain why it was very spluttery earlier, also my airbags light is on..anyone know why this maybe?

I believe you are being fooooked with.
It's for the heater control and often moved as part of the snorkel process.....

well that also makes reasonable sense as the little black tube buggers off inside the cab along with the heater hoses

Didn't I just say that?

Airbag light is usually down to a bad clockspring.

Willo,
Read this for a description of what a vacuum box does...
http://www.enginebasics.com/Engine%20Basics%20Root%20Folder/Vacuum%20Basics.html (http://www.enginebasics.com/Engine%20Basics%20Root%20Folder/Vacuum%20Basics.html)
Mine has been moved several times, the original black hard pipe was cut and a piece of rubber pipe inserted.
As other have said, in a TJ vacuum is used to control heater vents. As I've removed the heater, I was originally going to do a away with the vacuum box however probably going to keep it as TH350 autobox is vacuum controlled.
