Anyone know if the struts for a 97-00 cherry are the same as the 96 struts ?
Thank in advance. :)

I think the '97 facelift extended to the Cherry's bum too!
Post Facelift was a lighter tailgate with a bonded screen, so think the struts are rated differently.

www.sgs-engineering.com/gas-struts/car-boot-tailgate/jeep/grand-cherokee/filter/1996/

Try these as they go off the part no. on the originals. I don't know if the same or not, mine is a 1998, replacement cost me £30.00 for a pair off ebay but they stopped the bleeding tailgate coming down on my head so worth it..

I agree, but facelift ones can be used on the pre - but the lid does not go as high.

When I had my mk1, I was braking a mk2 and used the struts from that as they were good ones, you will need to swap end fittings

Don't mind if it don't go as hi, it's only lifting to just below level with the roof just now. (GC struts on) plus the 97-01 struts are £40 odd quid cheaper than any listed for the 96.
