Title: May & Scofield PCM swap on an XJ
Post by: Keta on June 02, 2013, 03:11:24 PM
Hey guys,

I have started looking into this as my car has only one remaining keyfob. It is not on the top of the list as yet as I want to finish the build.... But it will always be in the back of my mind if I do not get onto it at some point.

Car is a '98 4.0 Limited and the PCM has the code P56041 278AD. I keep having a look on Ebay and there are plenty with codes that match the first section but not completely. I can't seem to locate the info to translate the code and I do not know how critical a complete match is. I understand the vast majority of US cars had the NP231 transfer case where mine is the 242.

I am not fussed on having the central locking or keyfob at all I just want rid of the damn potential nightmare that is the M&S immobiliser. The remaining fob will eventually get wet, crushed or lost and I will end up stuck somewhere. Besides I find the disarming process annoying anyway..

Anyone done this or know a little more than me? Cheers..

The remote keyfob doesn't operate the immobiliser on a '98 XJ anyway.

Cheers Mike,

Maybe it's a '97 then, does that make the difference? R reg anyhow so one of the two :) It has the twin button keyfob and simple (probably not chipped) black keys. It flashes security on the dash if you dont click the keyfob and I am guessing it will cut the engine after a few seconds but I have yet to test that. I just figured it was the one I had been reading up on. It is the facelift model  :017:
