Title: Whining p/s pump - Lucas Stop-Leak?
Post by: rumble90 on June 08, 2013, 05:31:09 PM
Hi Chaps,

My 2000 4.0 Cherokee has developed a whine which increases in pitch with RPM, I reckon it's probably coming from the p/s pump. It doesn't appear to be leaking but I guess it might have drawn some air into the system from somewhere.

I'm going to change the fluid anyway as its probably been in there forever, but I've read a bit about Lucas Power Steering Stop Leak, which claims to prevent whining. My concern is that this stuff is clearly designed to gum stuff up and is therefore likely to gum up everything it comes into contact with and put unnecessary load on the pump.

Has anyone used this stuff and does it do what it says on the tin?

There is no magic cure. Change the pump, there are a few on ebay  :icon_biggrin:

Used wynns stop leak in mine. Doesnt leak a drop and no ill affect as yet. Saved me buying another pump and that was put in more than 6 months ago. So i dont see a problem with using it
