Title: AMC bearing shells size ident
Post by: Ric Jacques on March 31, 2006, 05:19:09 PM
Can anybody tell me how to identify whether AMC main bearing shells are nominal / .010 oversize / .020 oversize?  I need some new ones.  Shaft appears to be fine so I'm going to fit the same size shells back in and check clearance with a plastiguage (if I can find one :? ).  Hopefully they'll be fine.......

There is a number stamped on them

- Upper shell is 3186676.
- Lower shell is 3186677.

Thanks you lot!

o forgot if you done got the factory rocker covers for it on the righthand rocker as you gaze lovingly from the front is a plate riveted to the rocker cover rite against the firewall on it is the build code of the engine and it will state the pesence of over or undersize bearing and crank journals the aint all the same if you dont got this magic plate its back to the mike
