Title: 2001 Grand Cherokee 4.7 V8 - exhaust
Post by: BooBoo on August 17, 2013, 09:45:50 PM
Got my Grand Cherokee a week ago and started working my way through the snags, one of the more urgent items is the rear exhaust section. My car has had a new silencer fitted recently by the previous owner but its been very badly done..small tack welds holding it in place and blowing at the join. Most worrying is the way the rear tailpipe section has been rotated so that it sometimes rubs on the inner wall of the rear tyre. I thought rather than mess about with the old rusty part I'd replace it with some shiny new stuff but I'm struggling to find the part I need .I picked up a rear section for a 4.0 Grand Cherokee but since found out that it's a smaller diameter than the part fitted on a v8   :icon_rolleyes:

Any advice on where (in the UK) to get the right part as none of the online guys seem to list for the v8, all seem to be showing for 4.0 engine size only .

At the risk of being flamed for this question, if it comes to it can I get by with the slightly smaller diameter pipe ?

any size pipe will "do" but it'll only strangle the engines breathing. might just be better of getting a "universal" box and some tube if you don't mind messing depending on what you get it might just improve the soundtrack too.

Or splash out and get a custom rear section made - most towns have a place or two

where are you based we should be able to recommend a local exhaust centre.

That would help. I'm in Crawley, near Gatwick Airport.

Looks like a custom exhaust might be the way to go  :icon_jook:

Cybox list a complete cat back stainless steel exhaust system on E-bay for the V8 at £235.00, could be worth a phone call to see if they will supply just the back box and tail pipe.

Looking at CAT back for mine also at the moment.

Possibily go for a powerflow job as had one on my MX5 Turbo built locally and it was great.

In talks with Nick at the moment about the system.

Delivered the price is very good.

Tempted to go flowmaster 50 though for more agressive sound.
