Title: Oil in air filter
Post by: tim_aka_tim on April 03, 2006, 07:57:21 PM
Did an oil change on my XJ tonight, and thought I'd have a look at the air filter while I was at it  (was gonna replace it tomorrow). Filter was nothing too dirty apart from the oil thats been dripping from the breather from the front of the valve cover!

The rear valve cover breather (PCV?) is also split and came apart in my hand. From what I can gather, this should be under vacuum, but obviously isn't.

Is the fix as simple as to replace the rear breather pipe, or could it be something else?

The rear one has a one way valve in it, make sure it isn't gummed up.

Can I check that without removing the valve cover? I don't have an 11mm socket long enough to do one of the bolts.

I'm thinking I'm gonna have to replace the tubes anyway as the rubber has perished. Tubes might as well not be there!

Cheers for a quick answer, I can get the parts ordered tomorrow.

The PCV valve is part of the plastic elbow, it's a throwaway part.
