OK, as we are new to TJ ownership, it has come to my, sorry, our attention that the latest edition to the driveway has a multitude of these star / torx bolts adorning it & holding various bits on that wisdom has it need removing.
So, has anyone got any idea of what size bits I need & any recomendations of what make folks have experience of / where from would be appreciated.

The last set I bought was Draper Expert for about £16.
It's not quite professional quality but for how often it gets used it's fine.
Comes with a full range of Torx, spline and Hex (allen) keys.

I have 7 bits T20 to T55 which have covered most things so far. T55 is the bumper/Rec point size. I bought mine from Halfrauds but now i would get them from www.machinemart.co.uk (http://www.machinemart.co.uk) or www.screwfixdirect.com (http://www.screwfixdirect.com)

the delivery is £5.50gbp seems sensible to me...

when you get some torx bits get some good ones. also if you try them in what you want to undo make sure they are a perfect fit, then give em a good smack on the back with a hammer to shock em. if that torx bit dont fit well dont even try to undo em cos they are real easy to round off. recon they where made from swiss cheese not steel.

Cheers folks, I bought the set off eBay as suggested by Peter & found that the bumper recovery points are exactly as Dodster said T55. :wink:
Now then, after weilding them succesfully today, I replaced the rear recovery point for a Steve Middleton type special & was gonna fit an extended loop on the front supplied by Dr Evil.
Trouble is the Torx bolts on the front aint long enough to even catch the thread so any suggestions for sourcing longer ones or are these little suckers only available from stealerships ?

The ones that you'll get from the stealership come in two lengths - the shorter ones for the N/S front bumper fixing point where there is no tow eye, and the longer ones for the O/S front point where the tow eye is fitted. If you buy from them make sure they supply the longer ones. Having said that, it might be worth checking the thickness of the loop that you have. IIRC the difference between the two types was only about 5 -10 mm.
Anyone who has bought replacement front tow hooks should have been supplied with replacement bolts too. My replacements were supplied with Allen key headed bolts instead of T55. Unfortunately I've already given my longer T55s away, but anyone who has fitted front tow hooks should have the longer T55s kicking around.
Any reputable bolt and fixing supplier should be able to help you out - but I think you'll need to use high tensile bolts for that sort of application. Hope this helps.

Pop to your local engineering type place, they always charge me a quid for any bolts I want and shove it in their tea kitty.... just make sure they are "Grade 8" or whatever it's called... the strong ones... take your existing bolt with you and they'll usually match it up pretty quick...
