I have a clunking noise coming from my 1998 ZJ GC.
When driving along and going over such things as speed humps, as the back end goes up and down there is a clunk coming from the rear.
I thought it might be one of the rear shocks but if either side goes down a pothole or over a bump no clunk.
I have got the wife to jump up and down on the back bumper and the clunk is there and it is definitely not from either shock but seems to come from underneath somewhere.
Any ideas chaps on a place to start with this one as I certainly do not want to be under the Beast with wifey leaping up and down on the back.

get a pri bar and give the control arm bushes a tweak
Could be the rear gear box mount there made of cheese and have to support the box and T/C

Cat ceramics broken?

not trying to sound funny, but I had a similar problem......rectified by slacking of the handbreak completely, found it was somehow binding every so often on one wheel

Check the exhaust isn't contacting the back axle

back box on exhaust gone so went in yesterday to local place, new back box, tail pipe and welding on cat heat shield £90.00. Also found exhaust was hitting gas tank which was cause of the clunking which has now been sorted.

Sorted that is what I like to hear and how it was sorted even better. :icon_super:
