Got the )¬\( light on. Lightning bolt in-between )(. Book says ETC - electronic throttle control.
Seen it before but then went out and no worries.
Now it seems a bit more persistent.
Does the WK allow the key cycling trick to see if there are any codes ?
Cheers.
-
Oh dear, have heard it's not good. A cheap code reader will get the codes. It could be the swirl motor, it seems to be fairly common to replace them.
-
If it is the swirl flap motors intake, I have a V6 diesel in the panzer & had something similar, dealer wanted to replace whole unit, around £400 plus per bank but there is a repair kit for VW Audi, its £10 & takes 30 mins to fit.
Hopefully something similar for Jeep
Link to panzer forum, let me know if you cant see it & will try copy & paste

I'm sure swirl motor issue was sorted by PO according to Maf.
I've also read about coked up EGR valves that might give that error.

Dutch, did that link work for you ?

:icon_redface: Lord flash, just had a look, thanks for that. I'm gonna try our new dealership up the road in Truro for a scan and see what they say.
(new as in I guess that the dealership had just sprung up on the back of Fiat)
I hope they have been inducted properly into the fine art of Jeep electrickery :icon_rolleyes:

if its flashing it will be the glow plugs, if its just lit 2 faves are the swirl motor and the egr valve, motor is a bit of a bind to change but when its done make sure to make a shield for the new one, oil leaks by the intake pipe on the turbo and gets into the plug, simple enough to knock one up out of an old brake fluid bottle.
-
No worries mate, it was the photos I was hoping you could see, wasnt sure if you had to be logged in to see it.
Good luck with Fiat :icon_winkle:
-
I read somewhere once that the key cycling has to be done five times to on with some late models rather than three. Got to worth a try.

Called the Fiat man to book in. Seems he's not made of spaghetti.
Asked the right questions :
1) do you use the truck daily : NO
2) does it stand idle between usage for longer periods of time : YES
3) was the fault intermittent : YES
4) did it clear after a while before : YES
Fiat man : Put your charger on the battery for at 70% voltage might be too low and all kinds of weird faults pop up.
Why do I still have the feeling I've got a bowling ball lodged in my lower abdomen :011:
-
Well gents,
Since spagetti man could not see me before next Friday I ended up at my usual Jeep garage 10 miles away because I need
the truck to be 100% for I've got another IOW trip coming up on 30th. They had a slot open today.
As suspected the swirl motor had gone. Peculiar thing is that not only do you need to replace that but also order/install a new
turbo pipe/hose combo (at extra cost) to prevent it from ever happening again - Previous owner did not buy new there but he had the pipe/hose conversion done at that dealer in a bid to prevent it. Unfortunately the 25K that the truck had done previous to the modification had allegedly done enough damage already only to show (with me) after 80/90K or so.
At least I saved that cost so the replacing of the swirl motor only was still expensive but manageable.
So top tip to all WH/WK buyers : do not buy this truck unless you have in writing that the swirl motor & hose conversion have been done. or as JamesH has said knock off 750 quid or have that in reserve for when it happens.
I assure you it will bite you in the bum sooner or later.

Ouch :icon_sad:

pipes not needed you can get the gasket from ebay and tbh its a short term fix making a shield is the only way to keep the swirl motor connector covered ..
