Title: 1980 CJ7 Brakes
Post by: Ranger789 on March 18, 2014, 02:29:42 PM
I have decided to replace the complete servo and master cylinder unit on the CJ as it hasn't operated in at least 6 years and looks well past its sell by date. I am considering getting a full unit from the US but notice that the push rod hinge pin is at the bottom on the US units and at the top on mine. Also the unit overall is some 4" longer. Does anyone have any experience of fitting these units? Any help appreciated. Thanks. :017:

I have the Rough Trail one on my '83, fit fine and made all the difference on 33's.
Took a bit of setting up to get the pedal to feel right, there is also an adjustment between the diaphram unit and the master cylinder, spoke the manufacture in Arizona (I think), very helpfull.
I actually extended the pedal rod a bit, but I am running auto box, and rear discs. The brakes are actually even better since I switched from the 4.2 to AMC 360, must be more vacuum!

Thanks for that. Did you leave the pivot pin on bottom or change to top. Can't quite tell from photo.
Thanks again.

Is this any good: http://www.ifsja.org/forums/vb/showthread.php?t=106056

I got the set up for the Chief and it locks the wheels up on 35s without any bother at all, whereas previously stopping was something you planned a week or so in advance
