Last weekend was going up a very long hill doing approx 70 mph and there is an overpowering smell of grilled mature cheddar cheese wafting into the truck - was bad enuff to make me stop and lift the bonnet to see if something was melting but no smoke or owt obvious. Continued on journey and hit similar speeds on the flat without the smell returning.
Today however another steep long hill on a m/way and exactly the same smell ..... :017:
The kids have been with me both times and found it hilarious so i know it's not me hallucinating.
Any ideas?

:hysterical:..check for uneaten cheese sarnies... :icon_winkle:

-

I feel the level of gravitas being applied to this issue isn't appropriate :eusa_naughty:
As far as I can tell this is only a prob goin up a long fast hill coz not noticed it at any other point
-
Move to the Maldives highest point 2.4mtrs above sea level.
If the travel ain't for you Lincolnshire will have to do Comrade.
-
put a note under the bonet for some burgers or steak, at least the joker will see the note when they lift the bonnet to add more cheese
-
You'll be generating some heat on the hills, you might just be heating something up a bit much. The build is still fairly fresh, maybe it will fade with time as everything gets broken in. Is the temperature reading normal?
-
A Hill in Maidstone? It dead flat ain't it?
-
Blue Bell hill first time and then the hill outa Dover the next - both main A roads
The temp reading sits halfway between centre and hot, which is 'hotter' than where my other V8s have sat but as a new heat temp doodah was fitted at same time as new elec twin fans so im guessin it's the gauge rather than actual real temp
I had thought it must be burning stuff off but I have done 50 miles or so between hills with no grilled cheese so it was weird it comin back today
-
And i kno it sounds mad but Mrs BD was with me today as well and she agreed it's def grilled cheese - its uncannily weird
-
Check ya neighbour's fridge.
Summit smells fishy about this here tail :icon_eek:
-
He said cheese not fish :003:
-
70 Mph in that death trap :icon_eek:
-
Not now it's mended... :greggmo:
-
:imwitstupid: and all that power gets there without breaking sweat :headbanger:
-
Is there anything stuck to the underside of the Jeep?
Like a dead tramp stuck to the bottom of the transmission.
I find it pays to check every now and again.
-
Will check in the morning but im not sure tramps can afford mature cheddar :003:
-
has it got a sweet smell
-
More sweet than acrid - could almost b electrical but not quite 'chemical' enuff
-
Something is running hotter than is intended
:icon_toilet:
-
You got the optional separate transmission oil cooler mounted in front of the radiator?
-
On the plus side there is no tramp wedged underneath :icon_super:
Dunno Ferret - J33ky: do I?
Any idea what could be running too hot to make that smell? It is only up a long hill
-
has the truck been through wet mud lately?
have had some funny smells from old mud that has dried then got wet then hot again.
-
I just bet you have!!! :icon_eek:

Don't think so!

regrettably not, still running it in
-
it could be transmission has it gets hot and the fluid runs to the back of the sytem.
the hills you talk about are steep check where the tc meets the autobox you can get leeks there as the main output seals can fail and leek when the truck is on an incline
just a thunck

:iagree:...especially if it somehow gets thrown onto, or leaks onto a hot exhaust pipe.
