Fitted the complete tailpipe, cherry bomb and special cat yesterday. It's quieter than just a cherry bomb but still not sociable.
Am I likely to attract attention at MOT time or from plod?

Should be ok, my XJ had a bubba racing special and was loud

If you feel its too noisy put one of those removable baffles in the tailpipe, for more sound deadening wrap the baffle with stainless steel wool or go to your local motorcycle dealer and pick up a roll of motorcycle exhaust wadding, worked a treat with a car i just picked up with a stupid free flow exhaust system PO put on!.

As far as the MOT is concerned it depends what the tester would deem "clearly unreasonable"
Method of inspection.
4. During all parts of the emissions test relevant for the vehicle, assess subjectively the effectiveness of the silencer in reducing exhaust noise.
Note: For vehicles not subject to an emissions test, the engine should be revved to around 2500rpm or approximately half maximum engine speed if this is lower.
Reason for rejection.
4. A silencer in such condition, or of such a type, that the noise emitted from the vehicle is clearly unreasonably above the level expected from a similar vehicle with a standard silencer in average condition.

you cant fail a car on noise during an mot, it can fail on system integrity though causeing leaks.
the only time an exhaust will fail on noise during an mot is when there are two vehicles the same being tested and the louder of the two technically should fail.
there is not noise limit for vehilces after sale, there is a noise database but this cant be enforced due to the lack of training and suitable equipment available plus it is deemed as cost prohibitive to enforce
