Guys, does anyone know the thread type and size on Wrangler TJ sump plug.
Had a proper Basil Fawlty moment today when giving it a service. Had just changed spark plugs etc and was onto changing the oil. As it was draining, the postman arrived and as usual my Doberman went loopy. He barked, I sh** myself and the plug went flying :imwitstupid:
As I don't have the time to wait the 3 days for my local Jeep franchise to order one in, I need a temporary replacement. Hopefully get a bolt and washer from the likes of B&Q if it's even possible!

On a more useful note, I found on another forum that it's 1/2-20, which apparently means 1/2" round with 20 threads per inch. 8-)
-
Lol might come to that! Seems to be 12mm diameter. But it's defo not M type thread
-
Ok, 1/2" confirms the 12mm theory. Ta

Have you checked the container that the used oil was draining into? I'd be willing to bet that most of us have dropped the sump plug in there before.
-
Yeah, tried that and no joy
-
I know this will sound stupid, but having experienced this problem once before (not with a sump plug)...a magnet on a string, trawling around in the long grass and leaves worked for me....after a very helpful Birty sent me another wheel nut set!!
-
Not sure this helps but 1/2" -20 is UNf I believe and this is the same as the wheel studs on most jeeps so if you have a spare you could use one of those, maybe with some kind of washer / silicone to help leak seal it as a very temporary measure.

Not stupid at all, just found the bugger in the wheelie bin :banghead:
Yeah James you are correct. I may be wrong, but I think that actually does convert to an M thread with a fine pitch. M12x1.25 ish
-
So, am I correct in assuming in the crisis is averted?
-
Affirmative......

Haha, crisis averted. Until I blunder my way into the next one :97:
