Title: gear ratio's
Post by: georgen on June 24, 2014, 06:55:08 PM
What gear ratio's were offered standard for my 97 tj 4.0L manual, read that 3.73 but looking at the chart on here think they might be 3.07, cant read the tags on the axles but can tell you at 65mph in fifth gear equates to 1750 rpm running 33's, if this is the case for 33" tyres is 4.11 ratio right to bring back to stock gearing and if i went to 35" tyres then would be slightly longer than stock, I dont have a problem off road but its on road that killing me as its a daily drive, I could almost get banned in 3rd with this set up. I have looked at the gear ratio chart on the home page but it doesn't go down to what I am experiencing if I am reading it right.

You can take the tags off and clean them up, you can usually read them then.
Another easy way ,if your TJ has the original axles just get the build sheet from Chrysler, it will tell you everything you need to know.
