Has anyone heard any bad vibes (pun possible intended) about these prop shafts
Just got back from a trip to the Lake district (330 miles each way) and both the pinion oil seal and the out put seal of the SYE on the t/case are rather the worse for wear
other than the usual hum of m/ts and wind noise there were no indication of anything being wrong.
i know the o/side wheel is slightly out of true but it does effect the driving
any thoughts
ta ever so chaps

Not sure about Ton Woods, But i've only heard good things about Tom Woods.
:icon_twisted: Yes, i'm that bored!
-
However, for a more local (and cheaper) solution, i had my front driveshaft rebuilt at

Lord Tim....... Yes Bailey Morris are down the road from me and I had them rebuild the prop I Screwed following your directions at Breakout last year :hysterical:
Only Joking
It could be angles....... With a CV and normal axle yoke you should not be looking at a straight line
2 degrees below is the ideal so when you accelarate the 2 degrees takes up the slack and stops abuse and wear.
Just my 2 çents

hmm hear what you are saying Jez
couple questions
does this still hold true if its a double cardon thingy (which it is)
and why would it be ok for nearly 2 years and then suddenly cause havoc
now the xenophobic little englander in me will find a reason
it all started on the trip to,,,
French France with j33p so it has to be french off roading i reckon
Regards Tim

But you didn't do the stupid swampy bits Tim!
I think the TC seal has been known to wear out on those conversions. Pinion seals do weep sometimes, maybe worth checking for excessive movement of pinion up/down or a worn UJ in the prop causing wiggling that could get crap in the seal and oil out.
-
Like me Tim......the more you do the more you want to do.....and then......
The Red Mist descends..... All my breakages are due to this......... But then before I got a trailer queen I was bored to death with being sensible.......
You can't win mate ......really .....you can't
Just keep spending and enjoy :hysterical:

Just re-read this, 2 years offroading wears stuff out quick. I replace wheel hubs, ball joints, UJs and other parts at least this often. Just part of the fun.
-
Okey dokey
'spose i shall have to shell out for pinion AND i've just noticed end end of shaft thingy seal (weeping past the drum (defo not brake juice)
bah bloody humbug
lucky its being trailered to seven sisters - you still going Mr H?
-
Told you!
Your getting to be more hardcore and punishing those 'road going' parts with great trail time :icon_super:
And now your trailering ........good man.
We'll have you as a trailer queen by CF :icon_biggrin: :icon_super:

Unfortunately not Tim, all the fun is on hold while I get a builder started on the extension. Cheapest is likely to be the next event,
-
well....
what a w/end
The diff took over a litre of smelly oily stuff so was probably running on fumes for the last miles back from the lakes
so bugger all use to travel to s/sisters hence the trailer
on the way to pick up the trailer the waste gate problem reappeared on the patrol and wouldn't go away
so no way that was going to tow 2.75 tonnes up them welsh hills
so what to do...
oh sod it drive the patrol down any way
what fun going back to a basic truck where you have to actually choose lines rather that point and press accelerator
but bloody hell its the size of an atlantic liner with a belly problem i.e. there is acres between the wheels
jolly good fun tho

Glad you had fun. I also had interesting talks about trips in near standard vehicles that got me thinking.
