Offered up the safari snorkel to the TJ today to get a feel for how & where it fits.
On Macs Mums TJ, there is a body side moulding starting behind the wheel arch. It looks like it might need trimming to allow the snorkel to fit.
I took some pictures & will put em in my gallery later.
Any body have any experiance of fitting these or got any photos of one fitted would be appreciated, to see if I'm right or wrong as usual.
Any pics to gazjeep@btinternet.com would be great.
PS I am not fitting this myself, local guy who did the XJ will be. I am not cutting holes in the boss's pride & joy
-
bring it over here, I would love to be the one to chop holes in it!!!

have a look at yer calendar.......good shot of the side of mandas tj with snorkel on this months page!!
-
Just put a pic in the main album that was sent to me a couple of years back... still not fitted mine yet... :) (Soon though)
-
Is there a template in the kit?
-
Yes Manda there is a template & I think when lined up it means it needs a bit trimming out of the body moulding but want to make sure.
Basically I dont want to be responsible for a feck up as the boss WILL kill all responsible
-
Cheers for the pic Ed, I'll put one of Macs Mums TJ up later showing the moulding
-
I was told you'll need a dremmel and have to trim the moulding slightly when i asked about mine....
-
Didn't have the nerve to fit mine either!
You should find that there's a groove in the back of the snorkel that matches up with the position of the aerial - so it should be pretty obvious where it goes.
If you still need photos then let me know, and I'll take a couple of mine.
-
I fitted mine, it wasnt too bad although it was a bit scary drilling the hole.
Ive emailed you a couple of pics gaz, let me know if you dont get them and i'll try again...
I reckon you might not have to trim the moulding there is room for manouvre and i have the correct size holesaw if you want it..
-
You have mail from me too.
-
just put the bloody thing on. the way youy are talkin its gonna be a show car. its for off roadin aint it????????? if you follow the instructions and the template it is easy. just get the drill on it ya poof.
-
-
done ours, trust the template, plenty of silicone around the flexi hose joints.
no cutting of anything apart from the body.
i'm with greggmo, get on with it and in my eyes its better if you do it yourself. That way you get to learn about your new truck and when it breaks you know where to start looking.

Firstly, cheers for the e-mails chaps, it would appear we have a different moulding on the side of the boss's, it looks to go up the wing a bit higher.
Although it might just make it.
Put a pic here http://www.birtydastardsjeepclub.com/fo ... pic_id=914 (http://www.birtydastardsjeepclub.com/forum/album_pic.php?pic_id=914)
Hopefully you will see what I mean, relative to the pressed "Jeep" bit on the panel
Mort, know what ya mean about the aerial cut-out, gives you a good idea of where to centralise from.
Yes Mr Lardy boss we is gonna fit it & its gonna get scratched plenty
TJ = SWMBO's baby but I still have to ask the dumb questions
-
Gaz, Just rip the goddam gay moulding off and get some rock guards on it!
-
Rockrails already on order mate, Rocky Road just have to find the hardware to stick em on with
-
best to remove that moulding at the same time as you are taking off the side steps and fitting the snorkie :grinyes:
-
Trust me, the bling aint staying
-
Gaz mate you do it at a pace that suits you and make sure you and Macs mum are happy with how its fitted
Any trail trophies are another story for now.....
-
Pretty sure you will have to ditch that moulding to fit your rock rails
-
Cheers Stew, It aint gonna be at anyone else's pace bar the boss
MTS, was thinking along similar lines matey, will find out I suppose when ever the bloody things arrive
-
ExtremeTJ when at mountain jacks Fitted my snorkel and supplied the accessory bar for the CB.
He may still have one.
I remember there being something about a slight difference between TJs of different years..... a pre 200X kinda thing.
I could be wrong though...... I have been wrong before.
