The Chief has a full length safari rack (that will get rollered a proper colour this weekend) thanks to IOM, and I have bought so roof bars that fit via the gutters, however I have no clamps. The roof bars are square and the safari rack is flat rectangle.
So, I spent a miserable 30 mins in wickes today but no inspiration on what I can use to clamp the rack to the bars (I ruled out cable ties :003: )
Currently, I have to order today, top make sure they get here, is to use exhaust clamps - but does anyone have any better ideas?
-
for a quick fix with off the shelf items, try exhaust 'U' clamps,

yeah that was my thought - size is slightly weird tho as the bars are 4x4 cm and rack is 6x1 cm
Cheers James - the square bolts look like could make sense
-
def square would be a slicker job, was thinking easy to get hold of, either way looks like you will need 75mm internal gap
-
:003: cheers - glad you worked that out :003:
will bell that place James linked but if they cant by tues will go for exhaust clamps in the short term
unless - what are those U bolts called that have an elongated V shape to clamp?
-
Ade, why can't you get the rack into position on the roof bars and then drill down through them both. Then just bolt the two together with some long bolts. Or am I missing something and this is just to simple.
-
:icon_redface: that may be an option I hadnt considered
-
But it's a power tool Ade".....loosely assembled and clamped on the roof and you on a ladder with a drill bit pointing down at the roof........
What could possibly go wrong??? :icon_twisted:
Tis the best idea though. :icon_super:

I need to make a hole for my DAB aerial so if i slip its a double bonus :003:
(in all liklihood tho I will be smiling becomingly at CF in the hope that some drills an aerial hole for me :icon_biggrin: )
-
Four bolts with some washers and lock nuts. Simples
If it's a worry drilling in situ, put a metal plate under the roof bar on top of the roof. Just in case

Your ladylike smiling charms wont work on me as easily as they do on that J20 loving hill billy, unless i find myself in a trade union or employment based quandary at some point over the weekend :eusa_think:
-
You say that now but I am beguiling :003:
-
After 20 pints of that stuff Nexus used to bring maybe!, id best throw my tool box in the pick up as well.
Will a 4" hole saw be big enough for your DAB aerial? :97:

:hysterical: :hysterical: :hysterical: should do :hysterical: :hysterical: :hysterical:

Just for reference I used exhaust clamps when I took it from mine to Harptree for you.
