Title: Tales of a moody xj.
Post by: YT on September 08, 2014, 11:27:04 AM
Thought this may need it's own thread. It started as a refresh of a 3" lift, then some smaller jobs jumped onto the list. Richard started on Sunday, with the usual rear damper nightmare, seized/breaky top mount bolts. 1 out of 4 made it off in one piece. After some time the dampers and sway bar parted company.
(https://birtydastards.com/frm/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1281.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fa519%2FPhilxj4L%2FF014407C-8F26-4DE8-9AAE-C33F85CB2F5E_zps9oldgmdi.jpg&hash=c18593f2bd08c3ce6a22c907cca29ffb89580733) (http://s1281.photobucket.com/user/Philxj4L/media/F014407C-8F26-4DE8-9AAE-C33F85CB2F5E_zps9oldgmdi.jpg.html)
It seems as, at this point the Jeep chucked a full strop, and refused to let go of the rear flexi brake line. It's now having the hard lines replaced along with the flexis. This may take some time !

In case it's easier, the rear axle hard lines are available from the stealership for aabout £20 for both  8-)

Looks like the fronts will be as bad Bryn, on the upside, Richard can steal the ends and reuse. :)
Some major progress yesterday. :D I suspect Richard started swearing at it. (Always worked for me.)
Before (no shocks)

Nice!

What difference does the steering damper make?

No idea just yet, the Jeep is with Richard. I do know I couldn't move the damed thing by hand, so stands a chance the steering will be a bit heavier when parking/low speed.

I have to assume there was much swearing involved along with a lot of effort. It's now got a completed lift, with brakes. :)

Then it all got a bit flexi.

It arrived back this morning. Had a couple of runs on the winch, took a couple of tries at getting the strap in the right position, but once that was right,it all worked a treat. :D

Ain't that the truth the lights on my ex ZJ were truly pants..... More like sidelights on a ' more lights than a council house at Christmas' Audi.

Lots of options of wiring direct and stuff..........but YT has nailed it.......nice one. :icon_super:

I love the man logic of:

I am in a wheelchair and struggle with access,

So If I lift my jeep higher but fit a winch on the roof its all good.

Your a hero!!!!!  :icon_super:

The new rubber was the last straw, the extra tread just took the seat over ass height, the winch will be used every time now. :D :D
Big thanks to Richard for all the work. Didn't take him long swapping the coils, and they where a tight squeeze, the spring compressors even had a go at taking his head off ! Thankfully, they missed.
