Can anyone recommend a decent and trustworthy mechanic/garage in the south west London area? Cheers!
-
cant help with your area but if your Jeep is modified you may want to concider going a bit further afield to get the right mechanic, not that many in the UK that I would trust to reliably work on modded rigs
-
If you want to a reliable Jeep specialist, then go to FTE, Essex. FTE.CO.UK

sunderland 4x4 hands down, yes a little far away for you but without shadow of a doubt the best 4x4 garage in the country
-
What do you need done? TJs aren't exactly high tech.

Agreed

Thanks everyone. Sunderland is definitely too far away sadly.TJ's are simple machines but most mechanics I've been to tend to (which are most of them in my area) wretch at the idea of working on an American 4x4.
My power steering unit is leaking excessively and turning right produces an awful grinding noise followed by a highpitched engine whine for a short time regardless of whether it's in gear or not.
Thanks Gordy I'll have a chat with FTE.

That sounds like the pump screamin on full lock, pop the bonnet open and take a look at the power steering pump, check it for excessive end float (can you wobble the pulley wheel)

:imwitstupid:
And it's not in Sunderland

sounds like a blown bearing, that would cause leak and low fluid would cause whine, saying that wouldn't be easier and cheaper to just swap out the PS pump?
-
Contact western power steering in Bristol. Exchange unit is about £150 and straight forward to replace. Took me a few hours to do. Worst part was the two fixing bolts
-
Abe swapped his in less than half an hour, his mechanical ability is now rising fast and slighlty higher than Bulldogs.

Cheers Dave :003:
Agreed, power steering pump is a nice easy job, and I actually found it quite enjoyable! Just try not to get fluid all over the engine like I did - it now stinks of the stuff every time the Jeep gets hot! I guess I could clean it, but that's not lazy enough for my liking
