Need some advice from you guys I'll explain as I've been told....
My dads car had problems starting but got going in the end but running louder then normal
Taken to local garage who couldn't find anything wrong other than expansion tank was empty..filled up and agreed to take back today
Still running 'noisily' but taken back today and expansion tank filled up again but mention made that the only problem could be an engine gasket....garage suggest driving it to check things out and bring it back Friday
To me it sounds like the mutherfucking twats are trying to fuck the engine to get a much bigger bill to fix it
I'm off to have a look tomorrow but I'm not at all happy

Cant see how a dodgy gasket would make the engine run noisily unless it was a manifold gasket. What sort of mileage has the car done? When was the oil changed last?Have they checked the timing?Just a thought
-
Cars done 30K... manifold gasket tho.....could be an idea
-
Wouldnt have thought it to be anything worn out in engine such as cam then if only done 30k.Check oil though as if its low or needs changing then engine can seem a little noisier as it wont lubricate as well
-
my concern would be the expansion tank emptying......either you have a serious leak or your head gaskets knackered........
-
That was my original thought - doesn't seem right if it is for a garage to be encouraging use tho...
-
I would have thought car would be starting to overheat if the head gasket had gone and it was usingh so much water, but then again im no mechanic so its not unusual for me to be completely off the mark.Check the oil for any water contamination and vice versa. If it is the head gasket and waters getting into the oil then this could explain the increased noise as the water/oil would be less able to coat all those moving parts sufficiently

sound like head gaskit is it a rover by any chance
-
That does sound like a head gasket but at 30k I'd be amazed and disappointed if it was.
Take it to a different garage Stew.
I'd be interested to know what kind of car it is.
-
VMs lose water with no oil contamination when the heads crack. What car are we talking about here?
-
sounds like classic rover k series engine
-
Daewoo
-
is it the old astra diesel engine
-
Its an Espero? so it should have the old mk2 Cavalier petrol engine in it
-
Thanks all for the advice :?

still reckon the head gaskets fubar'ed....

Can't disagree ..least there's no mayo in the filler cap...
