Title: TJ Steering Box LHD vs RHD
Post by: Yakko on June 15, 2015, 08:58:16 PM
Hi,

My steering box is leaking like a colinder from the steering column seal. It's making my drive look bad and my Mrs angry.

Although I really don't want to pay £50 delivery, RockAuto are looking cheapest.

Anyone know if a LHD steering box is the same as a RHD box? Also, mine's a 1997 TJ, is that a 3 bolt mount?

Ta.

Errr no it will be a mirror image of yours.
Seal kits for the input shaft are available from Crown if its just the seal and nothing more sinister  :icon_winkle:

LH box bolts to the lh chassis. RH box bolts to the rh chassis.

without sounding rude, think about it

Yeah, I got that it would be on the other side of the car, but hoped it would be the same unit.

I'll source one from the UK then.

Ta for the replies.

Recon box fitted. Has made a massive difference, actually feels like the steering wheel is connected to something now. Turns out TJ steering isn't actually that bad...
