Title: cj7 starter motor issue
Post by: BIGDRY on January 24, 2016, 08:56:20 PM
Hi all, my new cj7 4.2 (well new to me!) has a dicky starter. It will spin but the pinion gear wont throwout to engage on ring gear.
Upon removal of the motor i found an external solenoid design that Ive never seen before  - Am i correct in saying that it gets magnetised upon receival of current when turning the key which then engergised the solenoid to throw the pinion out.  There also only one wire going to the motor? is this correct? Also in your experience is it better to get the oe motor referbed or by a newer motor? thx all.

You're right in your assumptions, I would get a new one, shouldn't be much more than £100, try Lighthouse

Many thanks Paul for the clarification. - odd design tha tim sure theres a logical reason for? do they burn out then and loose their magnetism powers? thx
