Quick question:-
I've just realised that none of the tail or sidelights are working on the left side of my XJ. Brake, headlights and indicators are fine.
I've had a look at the fuse diagram, but the fuse (#7) also accounts for the brake lights and indicators, so I feel it can't be that or nothing would be working on that side.
Any idea where to look?

Hi Bryn, Haven't got a clue but you are having fun with your fleet, haven't you :hysterical:
-
You have probably done it but start at bog basics and check the bulbs.....sometimes a bad earth can screw things big time.
-
I had exactly the same problem. Turned out to be corrosion in the bulb holder. Cleaned it up a couple of times, but finished up having to buy a new one.
-
Thanks for the replies guys - I just feel it would be strange if one bulb or holder could cause lights to fail at the front and rear. I could be totally wrong about that though. I'll pull it apart and have a look today though.

Dutch, yes, they do like to provide a steady stream of niggles! They keep on working though :003:

tail lights are normally linked so if one fails the other does as well
as said remove the cluster and check for corrosion around the buld holder and relevant body earth
-
Check fuses and dont pay too much attention to the fuse diagram / description just see if any have blown

Sorry, Didn't read your first post properly about the fronts not working as well. :tool:

Just a thought Bryn...don't they have a separate relay for each side ie. left and right? I know that many vehicles do...mine, for instance.
I had the same niggle on my Patrol....RHS, front and rear wouldn't fire up and it was the relay.

I've had a look, and fuse #7 was fried, despite the diagram saying this is also responsible for indicators and brake lights :017:
Anyway, replaced and disassembled the front, and it turns out one bulb was loose enough that it was obviously causing intermittent issues. All sorted and working fine now 8-)

You mean you investigated rather than just sticking another (or bigger :icon_eek:) fuse in :lol_hitting:
-
Only because the lights at the front still weren't working :003: :003:
