Hello all what is this small lever for on a cj7 steering column do? Adjustable column? Nothing happens when I move it??? Ps not the self tapping screw...
-
I think that could well be your steering lock mechanism :icon_winkle: (for what use it is)
-
Does the steering column tilt? if not that could be where the lever for it goes. too dark to compare at the moment

Ah maybe I'm missing a stalk or something as my hazard switch has also been snapped off by PO. (hence the screw put in the switch so the it can be operated).
Unfortunately Im in the middle of replacing my steering shaft ( the one that goes between the box and the upper column, ) and am having some issues as the splined column has some how ended up moving into the outer column an inch or so weirdly- prob due somehow to me removing old shaft and now it won't come back out , this is halting me replacing shaft and fitting new lower bearing as old one disintegrated. Hence why I wondered if there was a tilt or adjustable reach adjustment that might have slipped or jumped. That is when I saw this lever poking out the black plastic column shroud... Can any of the ne confirm if change columns have tilt or reach adjustment? Thx

It's the steering lock/key release. If it has a tilt column the lever is on the other side.

X2, key release lever. Although on mine you can pull the key out when in any position. Keys fell into footwell once on the M4!
-
yup key release the self tapper is the hazard warning switch
-
looked today and steering column adjuster is on the left with the indicator.
Key release? realy mine also just fall out from any position onto the floor
