Title: TJ Timing Chain Replacement schedule
Post by: Medic961 on April 01, 2016, 07:47:07 PM
Hi All,

I was going to change the timing belt but it is a chain on the TJ 2.5l.
I cant find a maintenance schedule to see when to change it.
Do I need to ?? Its a 1998 with 66k of easy miles.

Thanks

Ian

timing chains dont normally need changing as a rule, hence the reason for using a chain and no schedule

Not only is there no schedule but there are no wear guidelines either for the 2.5L chain. The 2.5L has a sprung tensioner that the FSM states compensates for worn chains.

You change it when the rattling becomes unbearable.

You change it when the rattling becomes unbearable.

Or you think you've gone deaf when you switch the ignition off........................
