Ive recently had my WJ 2003 2.7 serviced (have serviced it myself for last 7 years, but ran out of time to get it done this time) by Halfords Autocentre (be gentle with me for that decision).
Since its been serviced, its hard to start (before started first crank), and will take 10-15secs of cranking. Halfords reckon theres nothing wrong with it, but I can see air in the line coming out of the fuel filter. They're trying to tell me its normal to have air in the fuel line. Can someone tell me im wrong and crazy for believing there shouldnt air in a fuel line?!! They've agreed begrudgingly to put another new filter on (sitting there now using their wifi to post this).
Anyone think they're talking :sign0023: or should there be some air in the line?

diesels don't like air, guess you got one of the newer halfrauds mechanics that thinks they all self bleed.

I had air trapped in the filter of my old zj, I know this as I put some clear tube in after the filer as I had big problems with it randomly stalling. The problem turned out to be crank sensor, anyway that's beside the point. The trapped air was simply a bubble that never got sucked through so never caused me a problem. It didn't affect the running or starting. That's my only real experience of air in a diesel fuel system.

Thanks everyone for clarification that I wasn't going crazy. They have now replaced the filter...and bled the system, and now theres no air in the line.
Suffice it to say, I wont be going back there...
