Title: cj radiators - recon or buy new
Post by: BIGDRY on April 20, 2016, 03:44:27 PM
Hi all my rad has seen better days  as it has a crack (that amittedly could be brazed again) on outlet hose spigot and has had some chemical metal repairs by PO on core...

So i was wondering if it worth  getting it reconned or just go and buy a new one of ebay  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Radiator-Jeep-CJ-5-CJ-7-CJ-8-81-86-/252182399297?fits=Car+Make%3AJeep&hash=item3ab73e0941:g:bDcAAOSw5ZBWNIgf

not sure if the new ones are any good? anyone tried one of these? any thoughts appreciated.  thx

I went through the same decision stress and eventually gave up and got a new "oem" one (admittedly with the transmission cooler pipe in the bottom tank...) from Lighthouse for £345....

You have my sympathy...

New 3 core aluminium one from fleabay (ordered on US seller but arrived direct from China) and it solved all my problems (& I had a lot of them)

Also had fitted seperate trans cooler and the heat reduction in the tunnel is just staggering
