Here's a thought Kev.
Back in the day they used to use the Pinto 2.0 in a flattie. Cos the little blighter can Rev it can cope with 4.88s and still run motorway ....ish speeds ....without the grunt to break the axles.....
So either an old Mondeo 2.0 petrol......or does that mean an old transit 2.5 would do the business.
Just a thought. :icon_super:

Pinto I believe is MK4 Cortina AKA as cam eater !!

This might be seen as swearing but what about a VW / Audi 1.9 ?
Enough grunt for a little Jeep, silly mpg and good ones just go and go.
Someone, somewhere did a 'Jeep' conversion kit to mate up to a TJ / XJ manual box (AX15?) and I'm sure a man of your skills could fit one no problem.
