Title: WJ tracking
Post by: tim_aka_tim on May 25, 2006, 12:01:36 PM
My WJ passed its MOT today, but the guy said that I needed to replace the track rod ends. I can see and hear that the nearside rod makes a clunking noise when turning the wheel.
Does it just need new bushes? Cheers.

Not sure what they are like on a WJ but usually track rod ends have no bushes, just a rubber shroud around the ball socket to keep the grease in and dirt out.My guess is that you will have to replace them but they arent usually that expensive. When i did my Toyota 4x4 i got all 4 track rods for about £70 and fitted them myself

Cheers for the reply, Tank.

Went to the stealership, but they said I needed a complete trackbar, at £150+vat!!! as they don't do just the rubber bits or track rod ends. They also said that chrysler have only ever sold 27 in the UK - so I must be pretty unfortunate, or maybe its something else?

Either there is play in them or there isn't. (Or are the rubber boots split?)  Either way if you do need a replacement try Charlton Parts on 01223 832656.  Very helpful breakers.  They won't sell you any cr@p and they're quick.
