Title: YJ Streering problem
Post by: Nigel on May 26, 2006, 09:29:44 AM
Hi Guys

Need some help. Failed MOT yesterday on the steering. The Jeep is still almost stock. Fitted bigger tyres and they rub against the leaf spring when on full lock. (plan to lift this year)

How do I sort this??

If you have a look just in front of the bottom ball joint, there is a bolt sticking out of the steering knuckle.  This is the steering stop.  It's got a locking nut on it which is spot welded to the bolt (set at factory).  You need to take them out, and put some washers behind the nut to adjust the stops.  It's a bit trial and error as to how many you may need.

You'll need to use plenty of WD40 type stuff on the bolts, and possibly some heat to get them out cos they're gonna be well and truly stuck.
