Anyone know if the later 96 on 4.0 Injected Motor can be swapped into an early injected Jeep. Any help appreciated

It can (assuming it's not as early as the Renix inj. System).

You can even transplant a 4.0 into a pre injection Jeep as long as you have the matching ECU & loom, and if you want you could stroke it too.
Simples...ish!

A bit of a thread hijack
same subject, but is the 4.0 swap as simple as take out and bolt in new unit? looking to keep the carb and not the electronics at this point.
yes my engine has been killed

Yup!
Disconnect & remove rad, remove manifolds and starter from dead lump, disconnect from gearbox, hang from skyhook, undo mounts, hoik out and replace. Put new oil, water, clutch etc per milage on engine and replace gearbox input shaft seal. Put fuel, start, drink celebratory cuppa then sell old lump for scrap, unless it was a 4.2 in which case you should have stroked the 4.0
Either way simple job done and dusted.

depends on what i find during the strip down a 4.0 may be bought and the crank plus pistons swapped over to stroke the 4.0 and still run a carb rather than injection
