Hi.
My 4.2CJ has vapour vent pipes running from the tank to a "liquid check valve" then a "rollover check valve" (both in the back left corner), then off to a charcoal canister the engine bay and then to the carburettor.....
I understand that this was mostly for 1970's California emissions laws and I would like to simplify it all... (though something to stop petrol running out if I make it fall over still sounds like a good idea...)
What do I need to do? Can I just throw it all away? What are the issues?
-
I had same issue and read a few different rebuilds and took advice from long term owners on here and it would seem the charcoal canister and the rest is pretty much an 'addition' to suit California and can be removed
I have taken the two vents to a stainless steel roll over and then vent from that to atmosphere

:imwitstupid: I bought a vented cap from Rock and binned all the charcoal nonsense.

got none of that stuff on my jeep.
YJ filler neck with the screw filler cap waiting to be swapped over should stop the smell of petrol when you accelerate with a full tank of fuel
