As you all know the XJ has pants headlights.
What you don't know is that I hate dealing with the pixies that run round the wires in cars and bikes, so I'm not going to upgrade the wiring loom.. Especially when you can have 4k Lumen LED bulbs in the units now which will beat the high power Halogens but use way less volts and amps.
Before I go to Amazon Prime and order these bulbs, has anyone got REAL experience of the beam pattern, throw and MOT with these fitted?

YT (Phil) is the man to ask.

As Bazz suggested, I may have some experience with LEDs. :D
LED headlight units are THE way to go, but not all LED units are equal. No matter way the lumens say, some are SHIT !
My orrigional 2K per side Cree units where the best I've seen on the market to date, but you just can't get them now. What made them the best I've seen, was 2x 2.5w rear facing chips. They where designed the fill the black line that's left by the 2 main emitters. They have a 180 x 360 degree spread pattern, that leaves a black line the same thickness of the body of the unit. (2-3mm)
You want to look for 2 things, 1. CREE, 2. Emitters on opposite sides of the body of the unit.
If it doesn't say Cree, DON'T buy them !
Either of these will do the job. :)

That vid was with a 20" & 40" bars, I added another 30" bar after that. :) 90" of bars + the headlights added up to 57,500Lms. That meant I could do this to daylight. lol

Even in bright sunlight they came on like they meant it. :)

Well, it has been a few weeks since I swapped to LED headlight bulbs and the results are in...
The XJ now has headlights as good as the E Class we run, that has OEM HID's. My wife noticed the improvement without me prompting her too, so WIN!
They could be even better if 25% of the slivering had not rotted away. The bowls are in a sorry state. I'll have to see about replacing them, and the foglight that is smashed and rotting away under there.. In summary, if you are in any doubt at all about fitting these LED H4's, don't be.
-
:icon_super: Result.
-
Did those bulbs require any modification to make them fit?
-
No. Plug and play. Took all of 20 mins to do.

LEDs are THE way to go, end of. :)
BMWs Lazer lights are a con, the do use a Lazer of sorts, but it is aimed at a phosphorus plate. :)
