Title: greasing slip yoke on a 1995 xj
Post by: skyusdi on February 07, 2017, 11:49:35 AM
Can anyone one help. I have heard that greasing the slip yoke can help with clunk, going from Park to Drive, or Reverse.  I have a September 1995 build XJ.  Can I grease the yoke, which I read can still be done even if it is lubricated by ATF fluid, from the transfer case I assume which some discussions I have read suggest?

Sorry if this has been asked before, did a search and nothing came up. Thanks in advance for any help.

The clunk is normally the rubber gearbox mount having perished and gone soft. It's not that expensive or complicated to replace.

I'd wondered about this too. My XJ has clunked shortly after coming to a stop for several years now as if the driveshaft is popping back into place, so had always assumed it was the slip yoke.
I've never actually gotten around to seeing if I can do anything about it though!
