Title: power steering
Post by: rijitrobert on February 12, 2017, 05:26:57 PM
I was on my way home yesterday on the motorway when the steering became very heavy. I now don't have any power steering, the cooling fan is not rotating at all when the engine is running but free to move when its not. When both front wheels are off the floor the wheels turn no problem. I am thinking the power steering pump has given up. Any advice or thoughts welcome. Its a jeep grand Cherokee 2.7crd.

take the drive belt off the pump and turn the pulley by hand. if it feels notchy and rough then the internal or most likely bearings have failed. With the cooling fan not rotating then this implies your thoughts. the cooling fan should be able to be turned by hand with the engine off due to a viscous coupling
