Title: Changing from NP249 to NP242 on a ZJ 4.0
Post by: melindwr on April 27, 2018, 10:52:35 PM
How easily can the swap from a 249 transfer box to a 242 be made and will I need a complete donor vehicle in order to do this.
Every 4.0 ZJ I have looked at recently seems to be fitted with the dreaded 249 !

As far as I'm aware, all UK spec 4.0 ZJs had the 249 and all UK spec 4.0 XJs had the 242. I heard that the swap is very simple - I think there's a lot of info about it on other forums.

I put a 242 in zj yrs ago.
if memory serves my correct, you have to fiddle with the linkage a bit.
I didnt worry about the shift lever indicator, the VIC told you what position the t/case was in.
