Title: Jeep Grand Cherokee WK mk1 3.0 CRD suspension question.
Post by: macabethiele on June 21, 2019, 08:16:32 PM
I have an advisory on my recent MoT that the lower ball joints have some movement. The vehicle has don 80k miles.
As its a 2005 plate am wondering if it would be better to replace the lower control arms rather than have the ball joint only replaced.
Not sure what the price of Jeep control arms is but on e-bay they start at £154.95 for a pair (TRC Taiwan) up to £321.90 each for Crown parts, Eurocarparts  do them for £234.99  each.

What is the view of the Forum ?
Just have the ball joints replaced or go for the complete control arm, any experience of particular brands would be helpful.

suspension parts are the same what ever engine it has. the only thing to check are for RHD/LHD differences with the steering rack.

I replaced the arms on mine as that also meant some bushes were replaced. I should have kept the old arms for when the ball joints wore out again as it makes it easier to press them in and out if the arms are off the vehicle

For what it's worth, I went through the same problem with my KJ ...took a while to discover that the suspension parts were the same for all motor variations and eventually sourced them from Jeepey. Carljh is quite correct with his advice. So is James...just makes life easier. (wish I knew that before I went through the hoop)

Learning stuff is great fun.

Had a pair of lower track control arms fitted - good as new again.
