Title: Odd tyre wear on WJ
Post by: macabethiele on September 13, 2019, 06:10:26 PM
I have noticed that the front tyres on our WJ seem to have a strange wear issue. The tracking and suspension is all good. The outer edges of the front tyres are showing wear in the form of small rips to the tyre tread blocks. There is also some ripping on the main tread but this is slight compared to the edges.

Tyres are Goodyear A/T Wranglers and have done around 28k miles in the last 3 years being new in 2017.

Local Garage say its tyre chopping from driving on hard gravel?

Anyone hear had this problem - I am not an off roader.

if you have quadrdrive, have you been rotating the tyres to keep the wear even all round? as the system needs all the tyres to have the same tread depth to keep the vari-locs happy.

I have rotated the tyres but oddly enough I think the issue might be the tyres themselves. I remember that when I replaced all four tyres about two years ago on the same day I went to two different suppliers. I think one pair has suffered uV degradation as the front get the full sun for most of the day.

As the wear issue has not happened on the rear tyres that are now at the front I will put anew set on before winter.
